I wanted to envision an idea I had in my head. Looking up at the skies and looking down at the earth, what do you see in this world?
A lot of inspiration came from my travels to Iceland and Switzerland, as well as cloudscapes painted by Daniol Chavez, John Liberto, and Fenghua Zhong. Obviously, seeing Link soar through the skies of Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom creeped into my subconscious as I was working on this. Wind and cloud displacement was something I really wanted to try capturing.
The process was a bit funky. Lots of ideas were layered in over time. I wanted to capture more of what happens when you tilt your head up and down. The latter images represent what the Salvaged might look like/served as the first few iterative explorative sketches.
This is also a peak at one of a few creatures I've been thinking about.
I've always tried to cram in as much temporal motion and storytelling in my images. It's a double-edged sword, as it's really fun and informative, but can also lead to the "point" of the image being lost.
